The Nigeria Police Academy (NPA), popularly known as POLAC, is a prestigious federal university located in Wudil, Kano State, Nigeria. The institution was formally upgraded to a degree-awarding university in September 2012 following approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC). With this upgrade, the NUC recognized POLAC as the 37th federal university in Nigeria.

Since then, the academy has continued to train future police officers while also providing them with a solid academic foundation in various fields of study. Admission into POLAC is highly competitive, and aspirants are expected to meet the required subject combinations for their chosen courses.

Aims and Objectives of Establishing the Police Academy

The Nigeria Police Academy was established with the following objectives:

  • To produce skilled and well-trained personnel, particularly at the ASP (Assistant Superintendent of Police) and Inspectorate levels, to meet the manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force.
  • To provide trainees with academic knowledge, professional skills, and strong moral values required for effective law enforcement.
  • To build a new generation of police officers who will serve the nation with integrity, discipline, and dedication.
