JAMB Directs Schools To Update Post-UTME

If you are trying to register for Post-UTME screening but keep seeing the message “No Record Found,” you may be worried that something is wrong with your JAMB registration or that you are no longer eligible for admission. This message can occur when the institution cannot find your details in the records available on its screening portal. However, it does not automatically mean that you have lost your admission opportunity. The reason for the problem needs to be identified before you decide what to do next.

One possible explanation is that your name or updated admission details have not yet been reflected in the institution’s Post-UTME database. This may happen when candidates change their course or institution through JAMB and the receiving institution has not finished processing or updating the new information. In such cases, the details available on the school’s screening portal may not match the candidate’s latest JAMB records. However, other issues, including incorrect registration details or failure to meet the institution’s screening requirements, may also cause difficulties.

Candidates should also understand that JAMB’s processing of admission records and an institution’s screening registration system are separate stages. Even when JAMB has processed or transmitted candidates’ information, a school may still need time to update its portal and make the relevant records available. The timing can differ between institutions, so candidates should not assume that every school will update its database immediately after JAMB processes the information.

If you recently completed a change of course or institution, first confirm that the change was successfully processed on the JAMB portal. Check that the institution and course displayed in your records are correct and that you meet the school’s stated eligibility requirements. If your details are correct but the screening portal continues to display “No Record Found,” contact the institution’s admissions office or screening support team to ask whether your record has been received and uploaded. Keep your JAMB registration number and any confirmation of the change available when making enquiries.

It is also important to monitor official announcements from both JAMB and your chosen institution. If the school has acknowledged delays in updating its Post-UTME database, follow its instructions and check the portal again when an update is announced. Avoid paying an unofficial agent to resolve the issue or submitting multiple registrations without confirmation from the institution. If the registration deadline is approaching, contact the admissions office promptly rather than waiting indefinitely for the portal to change.

In summary, the “No Record Found” message may be related to a delay in updating your admission details, particularly after a change of course or institution, but this is not the only possible cause. Confirm your JAMB records, verify the institution’s eligibility requirements, and contact the school directly if the problem persists. The specific institution matters because each school manages its screening portal differently. By checking the source of the problem and following official guidance, you can determine the appropriate next step without unnecessarily jeopardising your Post-UTME registration.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has directed all institutions to update their list of candidates from the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) to ensure that all candidates who recently made changes on their choice of institutions are captured so as to enable such candidates register for the Post-UTME screening exercise of the schools they changed to.

This call was made by the JAMB’s Head of media, Dr.Fabian Benjamin during an interview with newsmen in Abuja.

According to him, the call became necessary following complaints from candidates who made changes but could not register for the 2018 post-UTME in the new institutions they chose because their details did not reflect on the portal of the institutions.

He mentioned that many institutions are still holding unto the list that was made available to them before the policy meeting in June and had since not updated the list to reflect the changes that have been made by candidates which is the reason such candidates are not able to register for the Post-UTME.

He explained that candidates generally have the right to change their institution of choice through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) whenever they decide to pursue admission at another institution. This flexibility allows candidates to reconsider their options, especially when they decide to change their preferred university, polytechnic, or college of education. However, the process is subject to certain restrictions, particularly when an institution needs to prepare for its Post-UTME screening exercise.

According to him, an institution may request JAMB to temporarily block its change-of-institution page when it is preparing to conduct its Post-UTME screening. Once the page is blocked at the institution’s request, candidates may be unable to select that institution through the change-of-institution process for the period specified. This measure is intended to give the institution sufficient time to organise its admission records and prepare for the screening exercise without unexpected changes to its list of applicants.

He noted that without such restrictions, some candidates could attempt to change their institution of choice on the morning of the Post-UTME screening or even while the exercise was in progress. Such last-minute changes could create administrative challenges for the institution, particularly when officials are trying to confirm candidates’ identities, verify registration details, organise screening schedules, and ensure that eligible applicants are properly accounted for. A sudden change in a candidate’s admission records could also make it more difficult to determine whether the individual had been included in the appropriate screening list.

The explanation highlights the importance of completing changes to an institution of choice early enough to allow the relevant records to be processed before screening begins. Candidates who intend to change their preferred institution should monitor announcements from JAMB and their chosen schools to determine whether the change-of-institution service remains available. They should also confirm that their updated details have been reflected in the institution’s records before attempting to register for Post-UTME. Taking these steps can help reduce registration difficulties and give candidates more time to resolve any issues before the screening exercise takes place.
