There has been several complaints about candidates NIN and how it can affect their JAMB registration.

The National Identification Number (NIN) is a unique identifier for all citizens of Nigeria.

It was introduced in 2007 under the umbrella of the National Identity Management System (NIMS).

But it’s actual implementation started around 2014 when National Identity Management System (NIMS) started Issuing National Identity Cards.

Over the years, the importance of NIN grew significantly because of it’s mandatory implementation for JAMB registration, bank registration, voters card registration, SIM card registration e.t.c.

The National Identification Number (NIN) was first implemented as a mandatory requirement for JAMB registration in 2021.

JAMB announced the integration of NIN in registration process in 2020 but was fully implemented in 2021 to enhance transparency both in registration and examination also to synchronise candidates data and personal information.

Common errors in NIN registration

1. Mistakes in Names

This could involve name misarrangement, spelling errors, the omission or addition of an incorrect name, or failure to write names in full.

2. Mistake in Gender

Some candidates have reported this issue if mistake in their gender. Like a male seeing “female” in his NIN and vice versa.

3. Mistake in Address/Town/LGA/State

They have also been complaints regarding mistake in house address, town state of origin and Local government area.

Though mistake in house address is not really a serious issue and it shouldn’t affect your JAMB registration in anyway but mistake in your state of origin or local government area is a something you should correct immediately before moving on with your JAMB registration because it can affect your admission process.

4. Mistake in the Dates of Birth

This is a very critical error and it seriously needs to be attended to before you continue with your JAMB registration.

How errors in NIN Affect JAMB Registration

• Rejection During Registration

If you go on with your JAMB registration with a mistake in your NIN JAMB system may flag your registration because of mismatch information between your NIN and the details you provided to JAMB.

• Difficulty in Admission Processing

Errors such as incorrect names or dates of birth can create discrepancies in your records.

Because the information that will be showing on your JAMB would be different from the one on your student portal. And this can affect your admission process.

• Time-Consuming

Resolving issues with your NIN after JAMB registration can be time consuming and very stressful.

How to correct errors in your NIN before registering for JAMB

1. First of all visit any close by NIMC office generally their offices are found in each Local Government offices
2. Make your complaints to them you will be required to make a particular amount of fee for corrections; Correction of Date of birth: ₦15,000. Correction of names: ₦1,500
3. Then you will be needed to provide some documents for this changes like Birth certificate, Passport(red background), Local Government identification letter, Letter of attestation, WAEC Certificate (optional)
4. You will be told what to do afterwards
5. After correction, you will be asked to come back for another enrollment slip at times this can be done immediately after the corrections are made.
6. You can now proceed with your JAMB registration.

Documents required for corrections of errors in NIN

1. For Name Correction:

Birth Certificate or Sworn Affidavit (showing the correct name). school ID, voter’s card, or passport.

2. For Date of Birth Correction: Birth Certificate, Sworn Affidavit of Age Declaration, Letter of attestation, WAEC Certificate or First school leaving certificate (optional), News paper publication (optional)

3. For Gender Correction

Birth Certificate or any valid identification showing your correct gender.

4. For Address/LGA/Town Correction

Recent utility bill (e.g., electricity bill, task bill e
t.c) or a sworn affidavit showing your correct address, Local government identification letter

How to correct errors in your NIN after JAMB registration

If you discovered any error in your NIN after registrating for JAMB just go on writing your examination then after the examination you can now proceed with the correction

Then after you must have corrected the mistake from your NIN you would still need to correct it in JAMB.

JAMB usually open their portal for corrections some weeks after the examination so you will then need to go to any close by JAMB office to make corrections on JAMB.

You might be required to pay some certain amount of fee usually around ₦3,000

After the correction you can now print your JAMB result slip.

Can you Register JAMB With Errors in Your NIN?

Yes, but registering for JAMB with errors in your NIN is not advisable at all is best to correct any issue with your NIN before proceeding with JAMB registration
