NWAG Scholarship 2027: Application Form, Eligibility and How to Apply

Admin5 min read

Nigerian Women Association of Georgia (NWAG)

The Nigerian Women Association of Georgia (NWAG), USA, has opened applications for its 2027 Scholarship Awards, offering financial support to female undergraduate students studying at recognised universities in Nigeria. The programme is designed to encourage academic excellence and provide educational assistance to young Nigerian women pursuing their first university degrees. Interested students who meet the scholarship requirements can submit applications for consideration.

For the 2027 edition, NWAG plans to award 111 one-time scholarships to successful applicants across the country. Unlike scholarship programmes that provide funding throughout an entire academic programme, these awards are one-time financial grants intended to support beneficiaries with their educational needs. Female undergraduates who are selected will receive the award in line with the conditions established by the association.

The scholarship is open to female undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in Nigerian universities. This makes it relevant to women pursuing different undergraduate courses across the country’s higher education institutions. Applicants should, however, review the official eligibility guidelines to confirm the accepted institutions, academic requirements and any other conditions attached to the 2027 awards.

One of the notable features of the programme is its nationwide distribution arrangement. The association will allocate three scholarship slots to each State of Origin in Nigeria, giving female students from different states an opportunity to be represented. This approach is intended to extend the scholarship opportunity beyond a particular region and make it accessible to eligible candidates from across the federation.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will also receive three scholarship slots under the arrangement. This brings the total number of available awards to 111, comprising three slots for each of Nigeria’s 36 states and three additional slots for the FCT. Applicants should therefore pay attention to the State of Origin information required during registration and ensure that the details they provide are accurate.

Female undergraduates interested in the NWAG 2027 Scholarship Awards should begin by checking the official application requirements and preparing the necessary supporting documents. They should confirm the application deadline, submission procedure, award conditions and any academic or personal information requested by the association. Providing complete and accurate details will help ensure that applications can be assessed properly.

Scholarship award amounts

NWAG has set three award levels for each set of winners:

  • Winner: $300
  • 1st runner-up: $150
  • 2nd runner-up: $100

All awards will be paid in the Naira equivalent.

Who can apply

The scholarship is open to female undergraduate students in Nigerian universities.

It is not open to final-year students. That rule stands clear; applicants need to check it before they start the form.

Essay topic and AI use rule

The essay topic for the Nigerian Women Association of Georgia (NWAG) 2027 Scholarship Awards is: “How can Nigeria harness renewable energy and sustainable practices to create jobs and drive economic growth?” Applicants are expected to write an essay that addresses the country’s opportunities in renewable energy, environmental sustainability and economic development. The topic encourages students to examine how Nigeria can use cleaner energy sources and sustainable approaches to create employment opportunities while strengthening its economy.

In preparing their submissions, applicants should demonstrate an understanding of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydropower and biomass, as well as their potential applications in Nigeria. They may discuss how expanding access to clean and reliable electricity can support businesses, improve productivity, encourage investment and create new opportunities for young people. The essay should also explore practical ways in which sustainable practices can contribute to national development.

NWAG has provided specific guidance on the use of artificial intelligence tools when preparing the essay. According to the association, applicants may use AI tools for up to 25 per cent of their essay submission. This allowance provides limited room for technological assistance during the writing process, but it does not remove the requirement for applicants to produce original work that reflects their own understanding and ideas.

The remaining 75 per cent of the essay must consist of the applicant’s original ideas, analysis and personal voice. This means candidates should develop their own arguments, explain their perspectives and demonstrate their understanding of the topic rather than depending heavily on AI-generated content. Applicants should ensure that the essay reflects their individual thinking and ability to discuss the relationship between renewable energy, job creation and economic growth in Nigeria.

The association has also warned that excessive use of artificial intelligence may lead to disqualification. Candidates should therefore take the permitted limit seriously and avoid submitting essays that are largely generated by AI tools. Using technology beyond the allowance could affect an applicant’s chances, particularly if the submission fails to demonstrate the originality and independent thinking expected by the scholarship organisers.

Applicants are encouraged to use AI responsibly and treat it only as a supporting tool where necessary. They should review any AI-assisted material, verify factual information and ensure that the final essay expresses their own ideas. Most importantly, candidates should read the complete NWAG scholarship guidelines before submitting their work so that they understand the essay requirements and avoid violating the association’s rules.
