FUASK Announces One-Week Mid-Semester Break for Students: October 2026 Schedule and Resumption Details

FUASK Announces One-Week Mid-Semester Break for Students

The Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (FUASK), Kaduna State, has announced a one-week mid-semester break for students following approval by the university management. The announcement was communicated through the institution’s Students’ Union Government (SUG), which informed students about the break period, the categories of students expected to continue academic activities and the date regular activities would resume.

According to the notice issued on October 17, 2026, the break commenced on Monday, October 19, 2026, and was scheduled to last for one week. However, the break does not apply to every student. The Students’ Union Government specifically stated that students in the Faculty of Pharmacy and newly admitted 100-level students are exempted from the arrangement.

The announcement is important because students need to understand whether the break applies to their programmes and levels before making personal arrangements. Those covered by the break were advised to use the period to rest and prepare for the remaining academic activities of the semester, while students in the exempted categories were expected to follow their existing academic timetables.

FUASK Mid-Semester Break: Important Dates for Students

The university’s approved arrangement, as communicated in the SUG notice, provided the following dates:

  • Announcement date: October 17, 2026
  • Break commencement: Monday, October 19, 2026
  • Duration: One week
  • Resumption for students covered by the break: Monday, October 26, 2026
  • Students exempted: Faculty of Pharmacy students and newly admitted 100-level students

Students should pay particular attention to the exemption because the break was not announced as a general suspension of academic activities across all faculties and levels.

Students Exempted from the One-Week Break

The Students’ Union Government identified two categories of students who are not covered by the mid-semester break. They are students of the Faculty of Pharmacy and newly admitted 100-level students.

Faculty of Pharmacy students

Students in the Faculty of Pharmacy are expected to continue their academic activities during the period. Their lectures and other scheduled academic responsibilities remain subject to the timetable provided by their faculty and departments.

Pharmacy students should therefore avoid assuming that the general break applies to them. They should continue checking departmental instructions and attend scheduled activities as directed by their academic authorities.

Newly admitted 100-level students

Fresh students in the 100-level category are also excluded from the break. According to the SUG notice, they are expected to continue with their scheduled academic activities throughout the period.

Newly admitted students should pay attention to instructions from their departments, especially where lectures, registration-related activities or other academic requirements have already been scheduled. The exemption means they should not treat October 19 to October 25 as a free academic period without confirmation from their respective departments.

Resumption Date for Students Returning from the Break

For students covered by the one-week break, the Students’ Union Government announced Monday, October 26, 2026, as the date for the full resumption of academic activities.

Students in the affected categories were expected to return in time for the continuation of the semester’s academic programme. They should check their lecture timetables and departmental communication channels to confirm their first scheduled activities after resumption.

The resumption date is particularly important for students who may have travelled or made other arrangements during the break. Returning early enough can help them settle down and avoid missing lectures or other academic responsibilities when activities resume.

The October 26 date should not be applied to Pharmacy students or newly admitted 100-level students as a new resumption date because those groups were not included in the break in the first place.

Why FUASK Approved the Mid-Semester Break

The SUG notice stated that the university management had approved the one-week break. It did not provide a detailed explanation of the management’s reasons for approving the arrangement.

However, a mid-semester break provides students with a short period away from regular academic activities. It can give them time to rest, attend to personal responsibilities and prepare for the remaining part of the semester.

The Students’ Union Government encouraged students to make good use of the period by resting, refreshing themselves and preparing adequately for the academic activities ahead. Students were also reminded that the break should be used responsibly.

Advice to Students Travelling During the Break

The SUG also addressed students who intended to travel during the break. It wished them safe journeys and encouraged them to prioritise their safety throughout the period.

Students planning to travel should make appropriate arrangements and remain attentive to any university announcement that may affect their return. Those who are not covered by the break should not travel on the assumption that their academic activities have been suspended.

Students should also maintain communication with their departments and check for updates before making decisions that could affect their attendance or academic progress.

What Students Should Do Before Resumption

Students covered by the break should use the period to prepare for the continuation of the semester. A few practical steps can make the return to academic activities easier.

They should review their lecture notes, organise course materials and identify outstanding academic tasks that need attention. Students can also check their departmental timetables and make sure they understand any instructions issued ahead of resumption.

Those who travelled should plan their return early enough to avoid unnecessary delays. Most importantly, all students should follow official university and departmental instructions rather than relying solely on information shared through informal student groups.

Who Signed the FUASK Mid-Semester Break Notice?

The notice was issued by the Students’ Union Government of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.

It was signed by:

  • Comr. Joel Yohanna Bature (JYB): SUG President
  • Comr. Hassan Ade: General Secretary

The notice communicated the university management’s approval of the one-week break and clarified the categories of students expected to continue academic activities during the period.

Conclusion

The Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, announced a one-week mid-semester break beginning on October 19, 2026, with academic activities scheduled to resume on October 26 for students covered by the arrangement. However, the break excluded students of the Faculty of Pharmacy and newly admitted 100-level students, who were expected to continue following their respective academic timetables.

Students should take note of the distinction between the groups covered by the break and those exempted from it. They should also monitor official university and departmental announcements for any further instructions concerning lectures and other academic activities.
