In 2000, the name was changed to National Hospital with a mandate to cater to all individuals.
By 2011, it was placed under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Health and has since expanded to a 400-bed facility offering specialist services in various areas of medicine.
The school offers two specialized nursing programs:
- Post Basic Nephrology Nursing
- Post Basic Oncology Nursing

To qualify for these programs, applicants must:
- Be a registered nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

The University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) is located in Gwagwalada, Abuja. It is a 520-bed hospital with facilities for expansion to 800 beds.
Originally established as a specialist hospital in 1992, it became a teaching hospital in 2006 for the University of Abuja.
