Documents Needed for UNN Clearance

Gaining admission into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), is a dream come true for thousands of students each year. But after celebrating your admission, there’s an important step you must take to officially become a recognised student of the university — physical clearance.

This clearance is compulsory for all newly admitted students. It involves the verification of your documents by the university and the submission of your admission credentials at your faculty. Without it, your admission cannot be fully confirmed.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the documents required, how to arrange them, where clearance is conducted, and when it usually begins.

Step 1: Create Your Student Profile and Pay Acceptance Fee

The first thing every new student must do is log in to the UNN student portal to create a profile. After that, proceed to pay your acceptance fee, which confirms that you have accepted the admission offer. In some cases, you may also be required to pay school fees before clearance.

Only after paying these fees can you move forward to printing the necessary clearance documents from the school portal.

Step 2: Gather All Required Documents

Below is a detailed list of documents you must present during clearance. It’s advisable to make at least 5 photocopies each and keep the originals safe.

  • Student Information Form (printed from portal)
  • Recent Passport Photograph (red or white background)
  • O’Level Result (WAEC, NECO, SSCE, or GCE)
  • O’Level Scratch Card (un-scratched, for result verification)
  • JAMB Result Slip (coloured copy)
  • Post-UTME Screening Result Slip

Step 3: Arrange Your Documents Properly

UNN is very strict about how documents are submitted. To avoid being sent back, arrange your files in the following official order:

  • Checking of Credentials (Degree/Diploma/Certificate courses full clearance)
  • Letter of Undertaking
  • O’Level Result (with scratch card)
  • Local Government Identification / Certificate of Origin
  • Birth Certificate

  • Admission List (highlight your name)

  • Authority to Serve as Admission Letter
  • Official School Fees Receipt
  • Student Information Form
  • JAMB Admission Letter
  • Student Result Sheet

Tip: Buy a office file, label it with your full name, department, and JAMB registration number, then neatly arrange the documents in the exact order above.

Where is Clearance Done?

  • For most students: Clearance is carried out at your faculty building under the supervision of your Faculty Officer.
  • For medical students: Clearance is held at the Ekpo Refectory (popularly known as “Ekpo Ref”), not at the faculty.

When Does UNN Clearance Start?

Clearance is usually conducted within the first two to three weeks of resumption.

Physical clearance at UNN is a non-negotiable process. Without it, you are not considered a full student of the institution. Prepare all your documents ahead of time, arrange them properly, and attend clearance early to avoid stress.

At Savina Academy, we are dedicated to providing students with accurate and practical information to make their academic journey easier. We wish you success as you officially begin your journey at UNN.
