What is a Matric Number?

Matric Number, short for Matriculation Number, is a unique number assigned to newly matriculated students in tertiary institutions.

It’s like a student ID number, used by the school to track academic records, registration, results, and other student-related activities.

Why is Matric Number Important?

Your Matric Number is more than just a random set of digits; it is your unique identity as a student in the university.

Here are some reasons why your Matric Number is very important:

Your Matriculation Number serves as an official identification for students.
It is used to confirm if one is a student of a particular university or tertiary institution.

  1. Course Registration

Without your Matric Number, you can’t register for your courses each semester.

This ensures proper identification and grading.

Without your Matric Number, you can’t sit for any exams in tertiary institutions.

  1. Access to Academic Records

Your Matric Number is linked to your results, transcripts, and other academic records.
Anytime you check your grades online or request your transcript, your Matric Number will be needed for processing.

  1. Payment of Fees

When paying school fees or other dues, your Matric Number is often required to ensure that the payment is credited to the correct student.

  1. Clearance and Graduation

Before you can graduate or collect your certificate, your Matric Number will be used to verify your academic journey and ensure you’ve fulfilled all requirements set by the institution.
